The Allen ISD Board of Trustees approved the construction cost for a major renovation at Curtis Middle School at its December 2025 meeting.
Designed by VLK Architects and managed by Balfour Beatty, the $58 million project will update mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, upgrade finishes, and significantly improve key campus areas such as the cafeteria, library, and administrative offices. The redesigned spaces will align with district standards for functionality and aesthetics.
Construction will be completed in phases, beginning with the auxiliary gym as early as April. The largest phase, focused on the cafeteria, library, and administrative wing, will take place during summer 2026 when students are off campus. Academic wings and other areas will follow in a rotating schedule. Portable classrooms will be used during active construction phases to minimize disruption to learning.
A complete redesign of the building’s main entry and front office will improve safety and flow, while new features like flexible collaborative spaces, enhanced special education areas, and updated fine arts facilities will reflect current and future needs. New access controls, security systems, and CTE spaces will further enhance student experience and campus functionality.
The renovation was first identified for possible inclusion in the 2026 long-range facilities plan. It was later prioritized by the community-led Project Kids Committee and added to the 2024 bond proposal, which includes more than $320 million dedicated to district-wide renovations.
