Allen High School Student Leadership Helps Secure $99,000 Grant to Expand Robotics Camps Across Texas

The Eaglets program, part of Allen Eagle Robotics, will support a $99,000 Camp Code grant recently awarded to BEST Robotics of Texas by the Texas Workforce Commission. The grant proposal, submitted by BEST Robotics of Texas, highlighted Eaglets as a key initiative that will carry out the camp programming.

Eaglets: Robot Kits for Kids is a student-led, non-profit initiative where Allen High School students design and build low-cost robotics kits using 3D-printed and laser-cut materials. These kits are used to introduce economically disadvantaged students in grades 3-7 to programming, wiring, and robotics principles, helping spark early interest in STEAM fields.

The success of the proposal was driven by the collaborative efforts of Allen High School senior Aleyna Talamantez, 2024-2025 Vice President of Allen Eagle Robotics and President of Eaglets, and Mrs. Johannes Starks, Executive Director of BEST Robotics of Texas.

“This grant has enabled our high school students with innovative opportunities to take part in the world of STEAM and teach kids across Texas," said Aleyna. "Our students are developing exceptional leadership skills as a result of this amazing opportunity.”

Through the grant, Eaglets will host camps in Carrollton, Chillicothe, Desoto, Harlandale, El Paso, and Lancaster. Each camp, already filled with 30 students per location, will offer participants hands-on instruction, a t-shirt, a meal, and their own robotics kit to take home, all at no cost to families.

This opportunity also strengthens leadership and collaboration skills among Allen High School students, who are manufacturing more than 200 robotics kits and preparing instructional materials for the camps.

Congratulations to Aleyna Talamantez, the Eagle Robotics mentors, and the entire Eaglets team for this achievement.
